Challenges for integrated pest management of Dasineura brassicae in oilseed rape

چکیده

Abstract The use of insecticides in flowering oilseed rape ( Brassica napus L. ) against pest insects such as the brassica pod midge Dasineura brassicae W.) often conflicts with protection pollinating and beneficial insects. is a major insect European production. However, comprehensive sustainable control strategy within framework integrated management (IPM) does not exist, little research on has been published during past two decades. This paper reviews existing knowledge about D. along its life cycle intended to form basis for further activities pod-damaging rape. Important gaps are identified, regarding significance natural enemies, diapause induction, predictions damage potential, based initial population. short lifespan adults particularly challenging praxis. implementation IPM discussed four steps (set an economic threshold, establish monitoring, preventive measures, direct measures) remaining hurdles, well potential solutions better IPM, identified. For , there no science-based threshold applicable monitoring methods farmers, which hinders field-specific forecast precise timing insecticide applications. Research into improved (e.g. selective attractants, real-time using remote-sensing technologies) appears be promising step towards .

Evaluating the Role of Seed Treatments in Canola/Oilseed Rape Production: Integrated Pest Management, Pollinator Health, and Biodiversity

The use patterns and role of insecticide seed treatments, with focus on neonicotinoid insecticides, were examined for canola/oilseed rape production in Canada and the EU. Since nearly all planted canola acres in Western Canada and, historically, a majority of planted oilseed acres in the EU, use seed treatments, it is worth examining whether broad use of insecticidal seed treatments (IST) is co...

Biofertilizers, Biopesticides and Integrated Pest Management: Potentials and Challenges in the Islamic Republic of Iran

The Islamic Republic of Iran has a rich agricultural background; agriculture accounts for 10% of the GDP and provides livelihood to about 30% of the population. Efforts to increase farm productivity resulted in importing pesticides with about 3000 tons annually between 2012 and 2014; therefore, there is urgent need for using alternatives such as application of biofertilizers and biopesticides i...

Plant defence responses in oilseed rape MINELESS plants after attack by the cabbage moth Mamestra brassicae

The Brassicaceae family is characterized by a unique defence mechanism known as the 'glucosinolate-myrosinase' system. When insect herbivores attack plant tissues, glucosinolates are hydrolysed by the enzyme myrosinase (EC 3.2.1.147) into a variety of degradation products, which can deter further herbivory. This process has been described as 'the mustard oil bomb'. Additionally, insect damage i...

Quantification of Plasmodiophora brassicae Using a DNA-Based Soil Test Facilitates Sustainable Oilseed Rape Production

Outbreaks of clubroot disease caused by the soil-borne obligate parasite Plasmodiophora brassicae are common in oilseed rape (OSR) in Sweden. A DNA-based soil testing service that identifies fields where P. brassicae poses a significant risk of clubroot infection is now commercially available. It was applied here in field surveys to monitor the prevalence of P. brassicae DNA in field soils inte...
